Power Flush Service Exmouth

PowerFlushOver time, sludge and dirt can build up in your central heating system reducing circulating efficiency and causing a degradation in performance.

Cold spots on your radiator could be an indication that your central heating system needs a clean.

How It Works

A Power Flush works by connecting a powerful cleaning unit and magnet filter to your central heating system in such a way that water flows from the radiators to the magnet filter to collect iron oxide sludge.

A phosphoric acid based rust removal chemical is added to the system and the boiler is switched on. Radiator surface temperatures are then measured using infrared thermometers to detect cold/rust spots.

By concentrating flow through individual radiators and vibrating the radiators with a special device, rust particles are dislodged and pass through the pipework to the magnet filter where they are trapped and prevented from re-entering the heating system.

Once the rust has been collected, all radiators, heating coils and pipe work are power flushed with clean water until water samples tested using special electronic meters show clean and neutral readings.

After this stage a small amount of neutraliser is added to ensure there is no residual phospohoric acid in the system, then a rust inhibitor is added.

Finally the power flush system is removed, the heating turned on and all radiators balanced to optimise system efficiency.

Bleeding Your Radiators

Sometimes a radiator will feel cold at the top because of air trapped in the system. Bleeding your radiators is a simple process which can reduce or remove cold spots.

First make sure your boiler is switched off, then use a radiator bleed key to open the radiator valve a half turn until you hear air escaping. Make sure you have a cloth handy as some water may escape during the process. As soon as this occurs, close the radiator valve and move onto the next radiator. Repeat this process for all radiators in the house.

Once you have bled the air from all radiators you may need to top up the water supply if you have a combi boiler and re-pressurise the system.

After you have done this turn the boiler back on and see if your radiators feel warmer at the top. If they still feel cold then it is likely you will need a Power Flush. Call 01395 350009 to arrange a service.
